I live between two worlds: the noisy one and the silent one.
I was diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss in both ears when I was nine months old. Initially, I was fitted with hearing aids in both ears but my hearing gradually got worse and by the time I was four years old, I was profoundly deaf– the hearing aids no longer worked. When I was five years old, I was implanted with a cochlear implant (CI) in my right ear at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa. Now thirteen years later, I am receiving a second CI in my other ear. This blog will document my experiences in receiving a second cochlear implant in my left ear after not hearing out of it for nineteen years.
